Episode #2: 3 Ways to Create a Culture of Shared Learning

*”Each day in schools across America, teachers and administrators are met with a steady stream of students acting out for a variety of reasons. Often, they arrive in the office out of frustration—both their own and their teachers’. Balancing discipline, social-emotional learning, and high academic expectations is a delicate dance, one that requires clarity, collaboration, and a shared vision.

But here’s the truth: a school without a clear, unified vision will struggle. Teachers, students, parents, and administrators all bring their own perspectives on what a school should be, but without alignment, schools can quickly become reactive instead of proactive.

So, how do we create a learning environment where high expectations, meaningful instruction, and student support all come together? It starts with a shared vision—one that puts kids first, ensures teachers are supported, and establishes clear academic and social-emotional systems that work for everyone.

If we want to build a school culture where students thrive, we must be intentional about what we teach, how we teach it, and the kind of people we want to develop in our classrooms. Because the truth is, learning isn’t just about academics—it’s about shaping confident, capable, and kind individuals.

Let’s dig into the strategies that make this possible!”*

Hi I’m Jennifer and I failed as a teacher. . .

I never set out to be a teacher. I was on my way to medical school, just taking a few prerequisites while substitute teaching. But something unexpected happened—I fell in love with the connection I had with students. The energy, the curiosity, the chance to make an impact—it was something I completely underestimated.

Fast forward to my first full-time teaching position, and I was all in. I worked hard, took every piece of advice I could get, and poured everything into my classroom. I thought I was thriving. Then, out of nowhere, I was told I wasn’t ‘good enough.’ I was crushed. I almost walked away from education altogether.

But that moment? That moment shaped me. It made me more determined than ever to create a classroom where every student—especially the ones who struggled the most—felt like they belonged. That fire led me from the classroom to district leadership, to coaching, to speaking at conferences, and now, to The Learning Project.

The truth is, our education system needs a revolution. Our students need more than worksheets and lectures. They need engaging, hands-on learning that connects across subjects. They need teachers who feel supported and inspired, not burned out. And that’s exactly why I created this podcast—to be your cheerleader, coach, and teammate as you build the classroom you love.

So if you’ve ever felt exhausted, frustrated, or stuck in a system that doesn’t work the way it should—you’re not alone. And I promise, there’s a better way. Let’s make it happen, together.
